Comments:
The S-282, while clearly not vintage, is shown here as the logical design evolution of Newman planers, beyond Whitney.
Webmaster may pull it from the site, but has not yet informed as to what is actually considered vintage.

So...Most Whitney planers were more for finish work or lighter duty planer mill work.
The S-282 was Newman's entry into high speed planing for large plants.
They built them in 18" and 24" widths.
The later S-382 machines would be built up to 30" wide.

A completely fabricated machine, the S-282 has airplane tires for feed "rolls".
It ran a separate hydraulic pack, not shown, for the feed works, with several air assist components, too.
It is a killer machine for regular 150+ FPM in hardwood plants; but it never worked very hard for us.
It came from a Lexington Furniture plant in Hildebran, NC, in great condition.
They bought it new from Newman-Whitney, through Sutton, for a small plant that they later closed, but of course.
We ran it for eight years or so, then sold it at auction in 2015.

With the bottom head planing first, it claimed some facing qualities, but it was more of a claim than anything.
Constant Passline allowed it to be hooked to modern material handling, a plus over the Whitney planers, whose tables move up and down.
