Comments:
This machine was originally in the pattern shop of the Baxter Whitney factory. After the company was sold in 1955, the machine was bought at auction and moved a mile or so to a cabinet shop in Winchendon, where it resided for the last fifty years.

Very heavy and beautifully constructed, it's also quite unusual - for the dozens of Whitney planers, table saws, shapers and other Whitney machines I've seen, I've never seen another jointer.

Said the previous owner - "well, they didn't make many of 'em.."

The machine has babbit bearings and a squashed marshmallow two knife head -- not a true square head, but one that was turned and looks like it was run through a double surfacer, creating the flats onto which the slotted knives were bolted. Nice, because it will act like a round head in that it won't allow the large chunks to be removed that a square head would.

Oh, and after fifty years of use, the previous owner still had all ten fingers....

My total cost - $258.18, including fuel for the truck, and lunch...not bad.

Will post more photos as I reassemble it in my shop.
