This machine was acquired at auction, and there was no other history on the machine. The Writing on the cast plate at the front on the machine states: "Oliver #3 Wood Trimmer, American Machinery Co. Grand Rapids Mich, U.S.A. Also written is: Pat. in U.S.A. May 1, 1894. Stamped on the bed of the machine is the number 3477, which I assume to be the serial number.
Having both the names Oliver and American Machinery Co. suggests that the machine was made when the American Machinery Co. was transitioning to the Oliver Machinery Company. Information on Early Oliver Machinery Serial Numbers on the Mother Ship by Jeff McVey led me to believe it was probably manufactured around the turn of the 20th Century.
