This machine was purchased from a private party and it was pretty complete and in good condition for its age, but was in need of a restoration. The serial number set the manufacturing date sometime in 1920, but according to the "Birth Certificate" furnished by Eagle Machinery, the machine did not ship until June 29, 1926 to the Youngstown Sheet & Tube Co. in Youngstown, Ohio. So it was in Oliver's inventory for six years. Rich Fink said that this practice was not unusual for Oliver during this time period. It was manufactured with the cutter head to take a coupled motor, and the customer furnished a 440 V Reliance motor which was mounted on the machine by Oliver before it shipped. Sometime in its history, the coupled motor/cutter was replaced with the updated direct drive assembly with four cutters, and the motor was rewound for 220 V. The tables and fence were also Blanchard ground, and by their looks, it was done fairly recently.
This is truly a beautiful machine.
