This machine and most the other machines in the shop at Sunapee, NH High School were from Powermatic and new when the school was opened in 1974. I also received the two Powermatic/Logan 11" metal lathes. This saw was replaced with a SawStop like happened in most school shops. It was in good condition and had not been abused. It has a 3 phase 5HP Baldor motor. I have replaced the motor and arbor bearings and the four (4) belts(a little overkill?). I transfered my Unifence, and Exactor sliding table and overarm blade guard. I am running the saw on a 3 HP Automation Direct VFD. It has plenty of power. The soft start is really nice. I actually used the VFD to slow the saw down to cut some Lexan plastic with out the remelting of the cut that happens at high blade speed. Because Off/ON is controlled by the VFD, I decided to put the switch on a long cord with a magnet mount. That is nice as I can put it on the table top or take it to the end of a long board when ripping. It is original paint except the plinth and dust door. The hardest part about cleaning up the paint was getting the duct tape residue off that had been used to hold the dust door in place when the latch went south. I ended up using spray automotive brake cleaner. Took off the residue and left the paint!
