Comments:
I traded a much larger non-operational lathe for this small, old plug and play Atlas with accessories and tooling. After a couple hours scrubbing away who knows how many decades of grime, it was in pretty good condition underneath. Unlike its later brethren TH54, which has Timken tapered roller bearings, the earlier H54 has babbitt sleeve bearings. The flat ways seem to be in good condition, but the lead screw has a little bit of bow towards the tailstock end, which seems to make the carriage movement a little tight on that end of the bed. Somewhere along the line, a previous owner appears to have added a nice Baldor 1/2 hp single phase motor, Dayton reversing drum switch, and some make of stand with storage cabinets on both ends. All are nice upgrades, IMO.
