From my father's collection of tools - probably acquired in the 1930-50's. May have been my grandfather's. Cleaned it up, filed off some of the welding spots, found remnants of red paint under the black, so repainted it red with some black highlights. Tapped into the jaws and mounted hardwood vice faces (to be used for model building and needed a wider and less harsh grip). Did not replace the spring - it did not seem to serve much of a purpose.
