Comments:
Got the saw home in a driving rain strom and with 45 mph wind with gust to 65 mph, what a fun time that was.The serial number is 72366,the model is 88-D,It has two round brass tags which say Property of USAF,Douglas Aircraft,Long Beach,Calif.(the picture didn't come out to clear}.It has an 5 H.P.,220/440 volts,3480 RPM,3 phase electric motor. It is plumbed for oil mist on the blade. It has the handle for sliding open the tables, this was
a new design for making it easier to change the blade and to use a wide dado set up.
Their is a discussion if Oliver make a certin model of the 88-D for Douglas Aircraft and it was a 88-DM.The noted difference was the way the sliding table opened and the accessories.Their are some who say the DM stood for Delux Model.I belive that Oliver did what ever it took to please a good customer like Douglas Aircraft.Since my 88 has the crank handle for the table and all the accessories but has the 88-D stamped on the name plate and two Douglas Aircraft brass I.D. plates this will keep the debate alive and well.I think that everybody needs to understand that most machinery companies were flex-
ible when a customer wanted certain setups or accessories with the machines they were buying. When you think you have them all figured out another different machine pops up.This machine came to me with the large extenison table and support leg.I have since added two number one miter gauges, the horse shoe connector and the quadrant. The previous owners kept much of the original accessories for them selves.Their is one other difference in this 88-D then others I have owned and others that some of my friends have and that is the locking handle next to the blade raising handle. It is much bigger and beefer,it is more like a wrench (octagon shape)which slides over a rod onto a big bolt
shaped head(you can see it in the second picture. Was this normal on the early 88's?
