Comments:
I fully disassembled the machine and had all castibg sandblasted. The platform that you see works great. Make a platform 1" wider all around the base and screw a 1" hardwood strip onto it. Then make four pads from UHMW plastic which I got for $ 10.00 at a plastic supply store. Make the pads 3" square and screw them into the base.
My jointer weighs 1150 lbs, and it now will slide effortlessly across my concrete floor and stays put unless I move it. Really beats fooling around with casters and is cheap too.
The photo shows the jointer without the cutter head and motor installed. I just completely finished it last night and it cuts glass smooth. Northfeild was awesomwe to work with as they still make exactly the same machine and all parts are avaiable. Thet sent me all the original decals and the nameplate which is now installed. I was careful to inspect, clean, lube and calibrate this jointer as it was my first machine that I restored.I'll post a picture of the completed machine soon.
Now for the that bandsaw..........
