This is my second of two Delta scroll saws. I never expected to have two, but a former student of mine called me up one day and told me that if I wanted her scroll saw, all I had to do was go pick it up. When I got it, it was minus a few parts. The blade guide assembly and its hexagonal support rod were gone, and the spring tube had been monkeyed with and some internal parts were missing. I ordered the parts from the Delta service center (this was a few years back, when you still could do that). It had a three phase motor with a buzz box converter, which I changed out for a 1/4 hp single phase tefc motor. This one came with the Delta stand. It is also a variable speed model. The belt guards are missing from both my saws. I actually have the remains, but both saws had probably been tipped over before I got them and the pot metal cast guards weren't up to the strain.

Since I now have two of these saws, this one is usually kept ready to cut sheet metal with a saber hack saw blade on it. It makes quick work of .062" brass. I can quickly change the set up, however as when I recently had to make an interior cut for a drawer opening in the front rail of a table. The opening was 30" long, which is longer than the throat of the saw, so I turned the blade holders sideways, mounted the blade guide in the socket for sideways cutting, and away I went. A standard coping saw blade cut the opening in 3/4" cherry without any trouble.

I don't know the age of this saw since it doesn't have a serial # tag. It has the same Delta tag as my other saw, but it is mounted on the right side of the arm instead of the left like the other saw, if that means anything.
