The story:

Acquired in Galax Va in an IRS auction on March 19 2003
( the day the Iraq war started)
and No one paid attention to the auction that afternoon

so I got this one ,as part of a 4 machine package for $900USD
Did two day trip to bring them back , 18 hrs /way
I was the first to arrive to pick up any machinery so I was
given a tour of the Galax facility before all the rest of the machinery was pulled
out , it was huge with one or two of everything
I loaded up with the help of a few tag along employee ( it cost me $30 Mcd lunch
for for 2700 lbs ).Paid $235

The Machines :
the galax factory paint was a lime green
restoration was and is a long drawn out process.
It took me a year and half to find the motor
New Baldor 1 Hp 208 3/60 with Allan Bradley 609 Manual starter
20" round table that tilts both ways and raise /lower 3"
machine has been rebuilt and repainted to match the others here
machine is complete for the spindle sander part , but is missing one
internal brass worm gear for the oscilation part.which is available
from Don at Central.
Has original roll around base and handle .
Has clutch for switching between osc and non osc modes.

I have never actually operated this machine , when I was looking for the
motor I came across a State OS3 Osc spindle sander ,
and this one has been sitting
in the back of the shop till I put it together today .

excess to my needs , 95% restoration completed
weight about 275 lbs

This is a tube type spindle sander and pre dates the common style drop spindle
used by state and others today ,
Porter cable and Oliver made a spindle sander
that looks identical in basic designand function to this one.
Don Hedge said it was bought new by Galax Furniture .
Still have original motor , but was burn't out
It was sold to Owwm member Arthur Fuege, who later sold it back on IRS
