WESTINGHOUSE 12-POLE (575 RPM) 3-HP, 3-PHASE INDUCTION MOTOR CIRCA 1911-1914
This motor, direct-coupled to the “Blower No. 1” ventilation fan, was part of the original construction of the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation’s Arrowrock Dam. The 350-foot high Arrowrock, located just east of Boise, Idaho, was the world’s tallest concrete dam when it was dedicated in 1915. The motor and blower were removed in 2004 as part of an upgrade program, and I rescued it from a scrapyard then. I'd guess it weighs at least 300 pounds. Still functioning perfectly after 100+ years of service, I'm planning to put it to work driving a 90-year old woodworking machine. I'll post more pictures when completed.
