Acquired via Craigslist ad from PO on Long Island, NY. PO was retiring from his career as a cabinet maker. He said he purchased the machine via online auction from somewhere in California. Machine sounded and cut like trash but I was desperate to upgrade my 6" Jointer to an 8".
Got er home and disassembled in the back out my Subaru Outback. Cleaned up all of the bearing surfaces and moving parts, reassembled, ordered a Shelix and began repainting the machine when the cutterhead arrive 2 months early and I stopped and put it to work!
An interesting observation once I got home, the machine appeared to be built from gold AND green components. From what I can tell 1981ish was about the transition to gold from green. I'm wondering if the switch over happened mid build for this with green parts still being used up and re-worked to gold. OR, things were broken and replaced, though the gold all appears to match. IDK. On re-paint, Rust-Olium Vintage Gold Metallic is not a dead ringer but it's reasonably close IMO and available off the shelf.
Took a lot of fiddling to shim and square up the tables and get everything true but that work paid off and it cuts like a dream now.
