The saw carries the text Chemnitzer Werkzeugmaschinen-Fabrik 1885. The manufacturer later changed it's name to Zimmermann-Werke AG
I found it in 2014 with moss growing on the table and a willow bush sprouting between it's legs behind a barn in Vassor, Korsholm, Finland. The previous owner had gotten it many years earlier from Böle where someone had used it to crosscut firewood and then abandoned it under a tree. It's earlier history is unknown.
The blade cannot be lowered. There are traces which seem to indicate that it orginally has a splitter or riving knife of some sort which must have been state of the art at the time. All threads are Whitworth and most bolts and nuts are individually fitted and numbered. The bearings are babbitt with oil reservoils under lids in the table.
I rebuilt it with a new arbour and new babbits and modernized it with modern guards and V-belt drive and electric motor. I also built a new fence which is stronger than the missing original fence had been and therefore more suited for use with a stock feeder. However bad health and money shortages got in the way and I had nowhere to set it up for use. Therefore it is still standing on a pallet under a lean to while a suitable stock feeder is hidden away in the back of another shed.
Much to my regret as I need a powerful rip saw every now and then. It is still missing the saw blade and the electric wiring.
