Comments:
Press used for embossing in the bookbinding trade and shows the diversity of Howard Iron Works. The holes in the upper casting would have held gas heaters to aid in the transfer of gold leaf/ foil or blind embossing into leather. Originally would have been hand cranked but was converted to line shaft operation at some point. If anyone has more information or knows of another press made by Howard, I would be interested in knowing about it.
