I bought this delta bandsaw on a cast iron base in Shingle Springs, CA from the son of the previous owner. He said his father had this saw for many years and he spoke of using it as a young kid in his father’s shop in the SF Bay Area before they moved up to the Sierra Nevada foothills. The “Delta Equipment Agency, Oakland, CA” badge supports that it had come from the Bay Area. The serial number tag looks to be the uncommon steel (Style 2B) introduced during WWII. Oddly, the serial number tag has 7 digits instead of the expected 6 digits; maybe this was mis-stamped when it was produced (could be -6500 or -6650 instead of -66500)?

The bandsaw was in a complete but rough/non-functional state when I bought it, so I picked it up for a song. I cleaned up the guides, trunnions, table, replaced the guide bearings, the upper wheel bearings, tension spring, and tires. I also disassembled and thoroughly cleaned the original Delta (Doerr) 1/3 hp motor (62-110), replacing the bearings and the blown capacitor. I replaced the wiring and rewired from 110V to 220V while I was at it. The motor pulley was slightly damaged and possibly still functional, but I managed to find a replacement from a helpful OWWM member so this was replaced as well. The upper wheel cover was scored clear through along the top near the edge of the upper wheel; maybe it was run misaligned or a blade came loose at some point in it's history. The gearbox is working smoothly, so I have not yet opened that can of worms. It was given a rough paint job at some point in its life, covering some areas that I wouldn't expect to be painted including the trunnions and serial number tag. Overall, I still need to give it a full clean-up and repaint. But for now I've fixed it up enough to so that I can start using it, and it is running very smooth and steady.
