Just purchased this Atlas model 64 benchtop drill press for $80. It was in very good condition and well maintained. Had some minimal surface rust on it but I gave it a light clean up job. Everything thing on this press is original. It was never once restored. Original paint, name plate and motor. There's only one of the two original thumb screws for the for the tightening of the motor extension. The other was replaced with a hex bolt. I see people restore these quite often which I think looks neat but I think I’m going to leave this as is. Kind of like the aged look. Only thing else I did to it was give it some fresh lubricant which it probably didn’t even need. Would have been willing to pull it apart if needed but the bearings, motor and everything else seem to run flawless, almost like new. Figured if it isn’t broken , don’t try to fix, like they say.

Truly amazing how quiet and smooth it runs. Been looking for one of these for a while that was in decent condition. I think I lucked out. The guy even threw in a quality old time drill press vise with it and an additional cast iron block that looks like it came with the press when it was sold new. The light fixture might be an add on from the original owner years ago, not sure. You can tell it’s an old fixture with old wiring of course. I know when I came across an old Atlas Drill Press flyer for these models (via. internet search) it did show the company sold additional accessories also for these models. One being a slow down pulley, another being a light fixture somewhat similar to this one, so who knows.

After doing some digging around and help from a gentleman on this site I found that this press was manufactured in 1947. Not bad for over 75 years old. Hopefully it lasts another 75 yrs.
