A Firemen’s Appreciation to Old-World Craftsmanship. Ken Hultgren, a Fireman for Los Angeles County, has been grateful over the value of his father-in-law carpentry tools, and woodworking machinery for many years. One special woodworking machine Ken Hultgren has cherished over the years, is about the precious commodity of the DeWalt Radial Arm model ABF. Known for its cutting stroke versatility that his father-in-law operated with as a Carpenter and a Builder.

Ken’s long-awaited and preferred choice in contributing to Old-World Craftsmanship, was the opportunity to transfer the vintage appreciated DeWalt Radial Arm Saw value, to Yanno and his Old-World machinery woodshop. A sense of purpose and fulfillment took place for Old-World values at a handshake between Ken and Yanno, during Ken’s description of the multi-function DeWalt Radial Arm Saw. The Old-World traditions were Ken’s insights for Yanno. The excellence to carry-on appreciated practices and customs that brought us here into the world we live in. Ken addressed the importance that strengthens knowledge by passing down manmade valued creations that lead us to the understanding of prudence and suitability. That is by sustaining traditional skills and safeguarding them from being vanished.

Furthermore, the vintage DeWalt Radial Arm Saw was a subsidiary of the century old American Machine Foundry (AMF) and has been an iconic Radial Arm Saw since its mass production that goes back to early 1950s. Raymond “Ray” DeWalt patent his multifunction ABF motor model, in a ¾ direct horsepower drive. DeWalt’s century old Radial Arm Saw became an evolutionary arm-design version during the 1920s manufacturing era. Since, its upgraded design advanced the Radial Arm Saws over the earlier versions. Raymond DeWalt forecasted the ABF model by envisaging to perform a variety of Radial Arm stroke cuts, projecting a multiplicity of Saw Blade Angles. Specifically, this evolutionary pivotal suspended motor design, allowed the Radial Arm stroke pulling range to include the yoke tilt in various degrees of freedom for its operating angle cuts; and, without the conventional belt transferring power, from the motor to the blade arbor. Incorporating, the geometry of the Head Pulling Stroke Versatility, thus rotating the arm, in straight line ripping as in a table saw, tilting the yoke, rotating the blade, dado rabbeting, by propelling the manmade work and properly align the project workpiece of the carpenter.

Yanno vowed to continue carrying-on the Old-World Craftsmanship tradition. And the preservation of Ken’s DeWalt Radial Arm Saw, of which from now on is welcomed to reside in a woodshop with other vintage machinery and hand tools owned by Yanno. Alternatively, a committed Firefighter, Ken Hultgren maintains a woodshop of his own, and in his standby time as a Firefighter, he practices handcrafted woodworking in his woodshop.

The 4” X 4” posts wooden stand for this DeWalt Radial Arm Saw was made by Ken’s father-in-law. The floor dolly frame to support the Saw is made from Oak wood. The front side of the frame consists of a pilot wheel and a footbrake, so to arrange the position of the Saw and to stand still. The back side of the frame comprises of two wheels serving the stand’s motions. Overall, Ken’s father-in-law did an exceptional wood stand improvement for the vintage DeWalt Radial Arm Saw for its fully functionality.
