Comments:
An early version of a Yates-American W-Line scroll saw, Model W-70. 24", variable speed.
A robust and fairly simple machine overall. Variable speed via a variable center Reeves drive mechanism, 700-1800 RPM. This was the hallmark of teh W-line.
Reciprocating mechanism is a Scotch yoke design. It runs in an oil bath in the lower housing.

Can carry either a 5" or 6" blade.
1-1//4" capacity with 5" blade, 2-1/4" capacity with 6" blade
Stroke is 1"

Sold at surplus from the University of Minnesota a couple decades back. Has been sitting stored for most of the time.

W-line Catalog indicates these machines were introduced in 1936-37.

List price in 1936: $52. 50
Shipping weight 240 pounds"

Later variants of the W-70, in brochure dated 1940, show a rack & pinion adjustment for the upper head. This machine lacks that and matches the earlier W-Line catalog.

No visible sign of a serial number.

It was missing a few parts. Some were fabricated, others came from another OWWM'er that had also restored a W-70.
