I acquired this 12 inch jointer in 2022 from a person selling her husband’s equipment right here on vintage machinery.org in the classified ads. The machine was not quite listed correctly, but I was happy to find that it was an L power and company jointer because I have an L. Power company planer of the same vintage. This joiner needed very little work to get it going. One of the wedge blocks on the outfeed table needed to be repaired. It needed a paint job. The cast iron frame is massive, which is great when you’re running large boards. I received the vintage 3hp 3phase motor with it, however, I made my own bracket to hold the motor, the previous owner had the motor bolted to the floor. I installed a drip oiler on the powered side of the cutter head which really helped because the bearing is a bit worn on that side requiring frequent oiling. The cutter head shaft has V-shaped grooves that ride in the babbit bearing. It works as a thrust bearing and a plain bearing, all in one. The cutter head has two straight knives. This machine sets up so easily and rarely needs adjustment. Such a pleasure running a machine from the 1800s on a daily basis.
