Just picked this up as excess inventory at the local mining museum in Colorado Springs. I hope to learn more about it as I attempt to restore or preserve it. Some interesting features: The entire banjo and toolrest appear to be made of brass. The headstock might have originally had a set of flat pulleys, judging by the length of the shaft between (babbitt?) bearings. I haven't measured, but the spindle appears to be 1-1/4 x 8 tpi and #2 MT. The tailstock also appears to be MT #2. There's a small hole at the crank end that may be for a rod to tap out the center. I hope so.
I haven't found any makers marks, but there is some pinstriping on the castings and it looks like original paint.
If anyone has any knowledge of this machine, please share. Any thoughts on the use of brass instead of cast iron? I'm leaning toward preserving, rather than restoring. Thanks for your help.
