I picked up a Delta Model 700 Scroll Saw for $50 because I wanted to motor and possible the welded stand, but of course the saw is in much better shape than I thought and appears to be original and complete. The original paint and decals look good under the grime! Not sure yet what I will do with it. Looking through the old Delta catalogs, I see that the earlier Model 700 saws had a single pulley on the saw and motor but the 1937 catalog shows a cone pulley on the motor and saw and advertises "multiple speeds". Looks like mine is one of these later 700 saws. Saw came with several vintage packages of blades and what looks like the original Delta hex tool for tightening the blade chucks.
This saw also has a the Delta 458 Mortiser installed on it. I thought it was just something the owner installed but I saw in the old catalogs that Delta sold these combination machines which included the mortisers, and there was one that was the Model 700 scroll saw and mortiser combo. This is the one I now have. Mine is set up with the Drill chuck and is missing all the hold down parts and any mortising chisels etc., but it appears to be in good shape under the sawdust and grime, and does have the foot pedal option.
That said, I don't have any plans yet for the saw and I doubt I'll ever use the mortiser attachment. The motor with the pull rod is in really good shape and runs fine. It's a cool saw!
