Purchased this lathe via Facebook Marketplace. Performed a 30 Day restoration on this 1942 machine. This lathe was a war department certified machine that was sold by Ogden R Adams in Rochester NY to Shuron Optical CO in Geneva NY. The lathe was received by Adams in December of '42 and delivered to Shuron in February of '43. This machine was originally purchased for war related expansions at Shuron and was used in the manufacture of top secret optical equipment for the military. I have no further knowledge of its use or whereabouts after that. The machine was apparently used fairly lightly as the wear and tear on the gears and screws was remarkably minimal for 84 years in service. However, I was able to find about 5 coats of paint on her, with the original top coat the same as what you see in the photos (US military Olive Drab). Of the 8 Acid Etched PLates for the lathe, only 3 survived (threading chart, model plate and warning plate). The other 5 I recreated by acid etching new brass and painting/distressing and the original 3 I cleaned minimally to make them readable and then clear lacquered all plates before install.
