This Whitney Table Saw was an acquisition from Modena Furniture Corp., operating in Lake Forrest, California, owned by Miroslav Andric. A skilled furniture maker and a remarkable fine craftsman. The owned history of this Table Saw goes back to its primary furniture maker Monteverdi – Young Furniture Company in Los Angeles. Whose high-end signature on Mid-Century Modern Furniture was an astonished symbol by exemptional designed and manufacturing elegant stances and contoured strokes. Attracting an array of wealthy clientele, including movie studios executives. One of Monteverdi – Young furniture display showroom was located in Pacific Design Center, on Melrose Avenue. Back in the 1970s when I started my own woodshop in North Hollywood making custom furniture, from time-to-time I used to go to PDC to visit furniture showrooms. One of my favored showrooms was Monteverdi – Young. One of Monteverdi – Young pristine furniture features were their immaculate 6 to 8 ample coats of lacquer finishes; over their impressive designed finished products made of exotic woods and veneers. And that includes Desks, Credenzas, Wall Units, Tables, Chairs, etc. When I met with Miroslav, in June 2025, as he was going over the history of this Table Saw, he mentioned about the high-end furniture that he was contracted in making for Monteverdi – Young. He stated that this Whitney 177 table saw is a purchase of Monteverdi – Young’s furniture making factory and that he is the second owner. I expressed my gratitude and appreciation to Miroslav, for offering me to inherit one of his and Monteverdi – Young’s most important woodworking member of machinery. Miroslav also handed me a large variety of rare Saw Blades that he used for the Whitney 177 Saw. At the same time, I procured the acquisition of Moak Shaper, from Miroslav, which he also had inherit from Monteverdi – Young Furniture Company.

I am deeply honored to own this Whitney 177 Table Saw. Because it is regarded as one of the best Table Saws ever made in U.S. for the woodworking industry. The overall weight capacity of its ~1500lbs includes a tilting arbor on a 5hp direct drive motor. Two original miter gages and its own cutting and ripping fence guide. Furthermore, the light restoration of this remarkable Whitney 177 Saw includes two “C” steel beams base set on four bolted Self-Leveling casters carrying its heavy weighted structure over, for easy moving around the shop when needed. The excellent heavy-duty structure of this Table Saw can rip-cut lumber stock up to 4” thick with is 16” diameter saw blade. Other heavy cast iron Table Saws similar to Whitney’s No. 177, category may include Oliver, Tannewitz, Northfield, Yates American, whose U.S. made engineering is to outlast for centuries to come.
