I purchased this machine at the Illinois Institute of Technology on January 21, 2007 for $140. The machine was in rather good condition. The bearings were tight and spun as free as they should. The motor powered on, but sparked and smelled weird. The only thing this machine needed was cosmetic restoration, and a good cleaning of the motor. I tore down the machine, de-rusted and paste-waxed all exposed steel and arn, and stripped and painted all of the parts that needed painting. I don't like the greenish gray color that is original to this machine, so I used Ace Hardware's Rust Stop machine gray enamel that I brushed on with good results. The paint takes 8 hours to dry, so all that settling time smooths out the brush strokes, and gives the paint job a nice even coat. I cleaned out the motor the best I was able to without taking it apart since no matter what I did, I couldn't get it apart. I think it was all rusted together, but the bearings seem fine. I just oiled everything that needed it, and it's fine. No more spark or weird smell at least.

Got the machine back together on 2-10-07. The motor can't seem to start spinning the drill under it's own power now that it is belted up, but a slight push of the belt powers it just fine. I will be locating another motor for this machine since I don't like to have to give it a push start. I also want to locate a wood working table for it since I don't have much use for the production table. It'll do for now though; I'm just going to clamp a hunk of wood on it for now. I guess I may have gotten a little fancy-pants with the wiring, but I had fun wiring it up. Well, this machine replaces my Ryobi 10" bench top drill press. I am working on de-chaiwanese-ing my shop :)
