Comments:
I bought this lathe from Skip Bradley, who also has it in the photo archives, but I have updated information - and different photos.

First, from discussion on the OWWM.org list, the lathe pre-dates 1960. It was part of a patternshop inventory in Houston which Skip bought when it closed. All the other machines had serial numbers dating to 1960 and the owner said he bought all the machines new that year. Not sure what the deal was with this one, but it has neither a plate nor evidence of a plate. Furthermore, its painted a deep blue-grey, not the more typical green. Leg and bed design suggest a pre-1960 date but I'm not sure when. The paint is original.

Second, the lathe is in very good operating condition. The inboard faceplate is a South Bend and there were several outboard faceplates that Skip gave me. Several cutter holders for the cross slide and what appears to be a shop made floor stand were also included. There was also a shop made motor cover which does not fit this machine. Anyone need a doghouse for a Chihuahua?

All evidence indicates that this lathe has tapered roller bearings, not plain bearings. They are tight and run very smoothly. I'm told the motor (Howell) is a 2hp, but I've not found any plate that confirms this information.

Apparently, between the time that the patternshop closed and the machine was picked up, someone pirated the electricals. All that was left behind was the button station. Skip had a Houston electrician rebuild the whole starter complex before I came to get it - much appreciated.

Some specifics: 1 7/8" x 6tpi spindle nose, 4" gap in the bed ways, #4 Morse taper in head and tailstock, 4 step cone pulley and two speed motor.

A great lathe all around.
