Comments:
I acquired this the moral and ethical way by placing a bid at the big online auction site and won when the auction ended. The previous owner is the fourth generation of the family owned textile mill supply company. It was founded 1890 in Worchester, Massachusetts. The company moved to Nashua,New Hampshire 1950 and has been there ever since. I bought all of their woodworking machinery as they are going to all CNC machinery so they can compete with the overseas competition. All of their machinery is well taken care of by a French-Canadian man who has worked there for 30 plus years. All of the woodworking machines were his babies and he didn't like other people using them. The jointer is listed in the 11th edition of the American Woodworking Machinery catalog as a babbit bearing, belt drive and the 14th edition shows a ball bearing, direct drive version like mine. The feeder has sectional feed and pressure rolls and two rates of feed for the direct drive unit (18 and 39 feet per minute). The feeder can swing out of the way to use the jointer by hand. This jointer has 4 7/8 dia. by 30" long, three knife, gibbed, safety cutter head with ball bearings. It is powered by a direct drive, 10 H.P., 550 volts, 3 phase General Electric motor. It weighs in at wapping 4,800 LBS. This jointer is a NO. 1 Pattern Makers with tilting out feed table, adjustable fence to 45 degrees, rabbeting ledge and bracket. The hand wheels for raising and lowering the tables are located on the front of the machine, instead of the back for the infeed table and the end of the machine for the outfeed, on the regular Pattern Makers jointer. This is the only version of this jointer that I have ever seen in the wild.
