Comments:
I purchased this grinder from a used tool dealer at the 14Dec07 Woodworking Show in Novi Michigan, for $20.

Dayton Electric Mfg Co, Chicago 6 IL
Model MMT40010A_1Z393BV, type SN, frame D42Y.
6" x 1/2" x 1/2" wheels, 1/4hp, 3450rpm.
115V/3.9A/60cy/1phase/rating 55.
A-635 (I don't know what this code means.)
The red paint appears to be original.

This grinder was too cute to pass up.
The body is all cast iron construction and the original tool rests are missing.
I'll fabricate or modify some existing tool rests to fit.
It probably needs new bearings.
Because of its size, I might use this grinder as a "portable/job site" machine.

Update (4Aug08): I believe this grinder was built by Doerr. It is nearly identical to the Doerr built Delta/Rockwell 6" Homecraft grinder.
