I picked up this Atlas 3500 ½” shaper on an arnquest to Seattle in July ’08. It had been advertised on Craigslist for over a month, I was not able to get down to take a look at it for various reasons involving being out of town. Anyways I finally got down and picked it up.
It belonged to a guy who had bought it used about ten years ago. I noted that the Craftsman stand has a name and Spokane, WN on it, but I have no history on it.

The stand is kind of cool, but is a bit rickety even after I tightened it all up. The wheels on it have bent the tabs up at the bottom of the legs, so it doesn’t roll very well any more. I suspect that the wheels are crap, and that the Atlas may be a bit on the heavy side for the table.

The shaper was in pretty good shape when I bought it, being covered with quite a bit of saw dust and general dust. I hit it with compressed air, scraped and cleaned the top, cleaned and oiled the adjustment mechanism, tightened a couple loose bolts and screws and it was ready to go.

It has a ½ HP Craftsman motor that runs quite smoothly and quietly, even with the spare shaft sticking out the bottom! I was informed that there is an OWWM member with the hypothesis that the Seattle Atlas dealer put Craftsman motors on a number of these.

It is missing the belt cover, and the height adjustment knob is broken but still functional. The fence is complete, but the hold downs are missing.

The table height can be adjusted almost 2”, but the table can rotate slightly on the round post if care is not taken while making the adjustment.
