Last year, the Hoover company of North Canton closed its doors for good. I went to the resultant auction with my boss, looking for equipment for our shop. I had already bagged my limit with a Delta band saw when I won this drill press along with a pedestal grinder for 60 dollars.The depth stop ears are snapped off, so the head stock isn't really restorable. The drill press was missing its table, motor,depth stop, and three out of four quill handles. The carcass went into mothballs for months. Eventually I traded for a W.T. motor and decided that this sad sack would make a heck of a mortiser.I have more in the Delta mortise kit than I do in the whole machine it's attached to. The work is clamped to the base and the head is raised or lowered to suit the work. It's a little awkward but it beats doing a lot of mortises by hand.Besides, it's worth it to keep this machine alive and kicking.
