Comments:
I acquired this planer through a govliquidation.com auction in the summer of 2006. It was removed from service at the US Army's Warren Depot in Warren, OH. Unlike many "gov-lick" auction items, this machine remained inside their shop complex until I arrived to pick it up. Therefore, it didn't obtain the usual government-issue patina, sigh. Apparently, the Warren Depot has the world's largest stockpile of mercury with 621 tons of mercury in stored in 16,355 flasks (in addition to other strategic materials). The planer was used in the process of constructing a wooden crate for each of these flasks.

The Newman S600, a 24" planer, is somewhat common and highly-regarded. I have to say that this is the first of this model I have encountered.
