It's probably about a 1950 or so vintage, though there's no way to tell. My dad has had it for about 35 years and he picked it up used from a old timer who worked for him. It was in fairly decent shape but it obviously need a bit of work to get it back in shape. It's had a rough life and been dragged around the country a few times. We replaced the bearings that were bad and repainted it to the original WT color.

It worked ok, but like most drill presses, we never changed the speed because it was a pain. That's not good for the drill press or the bits as hardly ever was it the proper speed for the job. Usually it was either too fast and burning everything up or too slow and not cutting well. I added a a 110v input, 240v/3ph output variable frequency drives (VFD) and a 1 hp 3 phase motor.

A mounting plate between the mount and the motor to attach the VFD and switch box and a conduit box to house the controls. The switch on the box powers up the FVD and the original switch controls on/off. Speed is changed with the potentiometer mounted on the box. Total cost of the VFD and 3ph motor; $125, Well worth the time, effort and $.
