Comments:
I bought this machine sight unseen from a gentleman in Bristol, VA. in 1998 for $3500. It was shipped to me in So. CA for $1500. I was disappointed when I first saw it because it looked as if it had been used as an anchor, covered in rust with all moving parts corroded solid. After a preliminary inspection, I discovered that the bearings were in great shape, the original motor was in perfect working order and that the lathe had no obvious evidence of use. It took alot of work to restore it to the condition that you see in the pictures but it was a labor of love. Unfortunately I didn't take any "before" pictures. I made a wooden brake seen in the pictures as well as a wooden auxilary pulley when I wasn't able to locate the original part. There is a tag, 181 U.S.N. 036867 that is affixed next to the Oliver nameplate. Thanks for letting me share!
