Oliver # 202 Molder, 4 direct drive heads, serial # 37947, 1929. April 2, 2009
Hey All,
Well here's an interesting machine that doesn't come along that often. The history is that Oliver acquired Eaglesfield-Link in 1929, I think specifically for the rights to produce this machine. A 1929 Oliver brochure that I have shows the molder with the name Eaglesfield Link Co cast into the frame below the starter. The machine is touted as the smallest/most efficient electric molder with the fastest setup times.
A friend of mine called from an auction in Ohio and asked if I wanted an Oliver molder. I had never really studied this model and quickly went to the brochures. I asked him if it had round or square heads, when he replied round heads, I said I'll take it and gave him a budget. Thanks Reid! We don't know anything else about the history of this machine yet.
Now that it’s back at the shop it is pretty complete only missing the feed drive motor. It has all the dust chutes and indeed has been upgraded with round heads, as it most assuredly started life with square heads. This one looks like a big restro project and is stored in the horse barn for now, although with some cleaning, it looks like it could do some woodwork in its present condition.
