Comments:
This is a spindle sander that I obtained from the estate sale of a friend (Mr. Tom Gerson - Stillwater, MN) who passed away. He was 95 and a lifelong wood worker. It is likely that he purchased it new in late 1955 or early 1956 as there is an envelope dated 12-30-1955 with two original marketing brochures inside. It looks like the original purchase price was $49.50. There is no badge or serial number on the machine.

The sander originally came with six (6) different sized spindles. Their sizes were: 1 &1/4", 1", 3/4", 1/2", 3/8", and 1/4". I have all of the spindles except the 3/8" spindle. The working parts are housed in the cylinder at the base of the machine. The cylinder is filled with what appears to be about one quart of motor oil. The oil is in good shape (not dirty). The gears inside are in excellent condition. Some internal parts are brass the balance are steel.

The machine has a patent number on the bottom front. It appears to read: 1.762.606.

The machine is powered by a Packard motor. The motor is 1/4 hp/ 5 amp/ 60 cycle. The motor is model: S7445 with a serial number of C452. The motor badge also notes that it is Type SW120.
