Comments:
This machine came from an auction in Washington D.C. It enjoyed a leisurely life in a retired U.S. soldier's and airmen's home. The home was the original owner of the machine. Unfortunately, the dirty paper was long gone. It has only one coat of the requisite U.S. government gray brushed on paint over the original dark Oliver gray. Except for a little surface rust on the shiny parts, the machine is plug and play. Bearings are excellent and electrics function perfectly. It has a 3 hp 220v only motor, which seems odd, as Oliver listed only 2 and 5 hp motors as options in the same vintage catalog. The foot pedal also appears different than any of the machines I have seen. It is of welded steel construction and angled differently. Perhaps a replacement to a broken original? Whoever fabricated the pedal did a great job. It also appears that instead of having dull chisels and bits sharpened, they purchased new ones. The machine came with 48 chisels and 33 bits in all sizes from 1 1/4" down to 1/4". I would have been happy with 4 or 5! As the shop is full and I've completed my quest machine list, this might be the last Oliver acquisition for me. I think I ended on a good note. But I can still enjoy the thrill of the hunt finding machines for friends!
