Notes: I thought I'd go ahead and enter my Oliver bread slicer, mainly to show their serial number sequence. Oliver started making bread slicers in the Depression to get some cash flow going, since woodworking machinery sales were slow. At some point, they decided to set aside serial numbers from 100,000 to 199,999 for the food-related machinery that was being made by the separate Oliver Products Co. That's why Oliver woodworking machinery numbers stop at 99,999 and start again at 200,000. I actually picked this machine up for just $10.00. I think they still make them, but I believe a new one costs several thousand bucks. Although I've only used it a few times, it seems to work perfectly. It's got 32 reciprocating blades and can handle a loaf of bread about 17" long and maybe 6" high. I bought a new set of blades for it a couple of years ago, and it was around $40.00. Haven't installed them yet. They show up on eBay - in several different variations, along with the Oliver bagel slicers that use a circular blade - frequently. If you want to see pictures, just go to eBay and search for "Oliver + slicer" I just did and got 243 hits! Like their woodworking machines, these are well built!
