Source=Owner's submission. Owner's notes: Found lathe near Pittsburgh. A neighbor noticed machine parts in the trash and inquired, eventually buying the lathe which had sat in a garage for many years. It came with the original Driver reversing switch and a contemporary 1/3 hp motor 1750 rpm made by Companion for Sears and Roebuck. It has vintage cloth covered wiring from the motor to switch. From the Walker Turner Driver catalogs for 1936 thru 1938 apparently this switch was only offered in 1936 and 1937 whereas the L540 wood lathe with the Driver badge at the end of the bed beside the gap was offered from 1936-1938. Built a heavy Black Oak frame and mounted the motor with a link belt under the bed. |
