Colonial Broach Company was a manufacturer of broach tooling and machinery. While their main line is tooling (which is outside the scope of this web site), they also manufactured several machines including broaching machines, presses, and sharpening machinery. There appears to be some uncertainty as to the early history of this company. While the companies web site indicates that they were founded in 1929, a 1932 catalog indicates that the company was more likely founded around 1917 as the Colonial Tool Co., but changing their name to the Colonial Broach Co. in 1929. According to their web site, in 1929, the company was a division of Michigan Tool. In 1954, the Ex-Cell-O Corp purchased the company. In 1986, they were again purchased by Textron. In 1993, the company changed its name back to Colonial Tool Co.

In 1997, Colonial acquired Val-U-Tool, and in 2007, they acquired Advanced Cutting Tool Systems. Colonial Tool Co, Val-U-Tool and Advanced Cutting Tool Systems all operate under the umbrella of the Colonial Tool Group, Inc.
