New London Ship & Engine Co. (NELSECO) was incorporated in 1910 in Groton, CT as a subsidiary of the Electric Boat Co. to manufacture diesel engines under license from Maschinenfabrik Augsburg-Nürnberg. New London made both stationary and marine diesels, including submarine engines. Their 1921 page in Condensed Catalogues of Mechanical Equipment, Vol. 11 stated that they had over 100,000 HP in service and over 50,000 HP on order. The company merged with Electric Boat in early 1928 to save overhead and because of impending federal tax changes.
