This company was founded in 1927. From the beginning until perhaps the post-WWII era, their product line included a couple of models of bandsaws. The company is still in business as a small machine shop but are not making bandsaws or other machines.

Information Sources

  • A page from a business information site gives the founding date as 1927. The business is now a machine shop with three employees. The address is 15 Greenwich St, Belmont, NY. The business is apparently now owned by the Winterhalter family, who have been associated with it for many years.
  • We have two reports of bandsaws from this maker, one a 20" saw and the other a 30" saw.
  • An Allegany County, NY, history site has an obituary for William Laidlaw from the Times Evening Herald, Olean, New York, October 24, 1932, p. 4.
Belmont, Oct. 24-- William Laidlaw, fifty-five years old, prominent Belmont manufacturer and active in Allegany County American Legion affairs, was found dead in bed this morning at seven o'clock by members of his family.

Mr. Laidlaw had retired Sunday evening in usual health although he had complained of dizzy spells and headaches for the past few days, members of his family stated.

During the World War, he was engaged in active service in the trenches in France, being captain of a Machine Gun Company. He was a major in the United States Army Reserves.

For the past twenty years, Mr. Laidlaw has been a resident of Belmont, where he headed the William Laidlaw Manufacturing Company, manufacturers of saws and several patented products.
  • A patent search did not turn up any patents granted or assigned to a person or company named Laidlaw of Belmont, NY.
