Kaeser Compressors, Inc. began in 1919 in Germany and remains in business over one hundred years later, specializing in air compressors.

The business initially focused on the production of spare parts for motor vehicles and engines, in particular gears, and later expanded to include the construction of special-purpose machines for the glass industry.
Within a few years, the company had grown to a workforce of 150 employees.

As a result of the division of Germany after World War II, Kaeser loses a large part of its previous market in Thuringia and is forced to orient itself toward new markets in southern and western Germany. Kaeser's expertise in engine construction and the post-war economy's great need for compressors lead to the decision to include these machines in the product range.

The first piston compressor developed left the production plant in 1948. In the years that followed, a complete range of piston compressors up to 60 kW was developed.

Carl Kaeser Jr., son of the company founder, takes the initiative to set the next strategic course for the company: the development of screw compressors. Production of the new screw compressors begins in 1975. Over the following years, Kaeser develops into one of the world's leading manufacturers of screw compressors.

With the opening of its first subsidiary in Switzerland, Kaeser begins to establish its international sales and service organization.

Kaeser celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2019. The number of employees has grown to 5500. The company is managed by Thomas Kaeser and Tina-Maria Vlantoussi-Kaeser who both hold a degree in industrial engineering.
