A control mechanism for a steering system for individually or simultaneously controlling the turning movements of the front and rear wheels of a vehicle is disclosed herein. The steering system is capable of controlling the movement of the rear wheels in a plurality of modes with respect to the front wheels and one mode in which the rear wheels are independently controlled. The control mechanism includes a control member that is pivoted on the frame of the vehicle to a plurality of positions to move an actuating switch that is part of the control means to a plurality of positions corresponding to the respective modes of steering and actuating means that cooperates with a signal producing device that produces a control signal to independently control the turning movement of the rear wheels.

An easily transportable and mechanized bag filling machine preferably used for filling sandbags at a high rate of speed to meet the requirement for a lare number of filled sandbags in areas where conditions such as flooding exist. The mechanized bag filling machine includes a pivotable trailer-mounted bag filling assembly comprising a receptacle with a cross auger, a conveyor, and a chute having bagging heads. The trailer-mounted assembly is conveniently movable from a transport position wherein the conveyor lies substantially horizontal on the trailer to a work position wherein the conveyor is inclined by actuating a cylinder connected at one end to the trailer and at its other end to the underside of the conveyor. The bagging heads are supported in an upright position on one end of the conveyor during transport, and they are pivoted to extend downwardly after the conveyor is elevated to an inclined position. The machine is self-contained and includes its own power plant, clamping devices to hold empty bags under the bagging heads, sealing mechanism to seal filled bags, and motors for driving the conveyor and auger in the receptacle.

A mechanism for angling, pitching, and tilting a dozer blade utilized in a conventional bulldozer wherein the blade is connected by means of a universal joint to the center bight portion of a C-shaped frame. A vertical mast support structure at the center of the bight portion of the frame mounts one end of the extensible links used for angling, tilting, and pitching the blade. The angling and pitching control includes a pair of piston-cylinders connected between the vertical mast and the respective sides of the bulldozer blade. The hydraulic circuitry for the cylinders simultaneously extends the piston rod of one cylinder while retracting the piston rod of the opposed cylinder to angle the blade about a vertical axis. Simultaneous extension or retraction of both piston rods causes the blade to pitch about a horizontal transverse axis. The blade is additionally connected to the top end of the vertical mast structure by a tilt cylinder which is disposed parallel to the top edge of the blade. The blade adjustment construction provides that when the blade is angled, the blade tilt is not changed. The present construction eliminates conventional complex push lever and linkage arrangements, and the operation does not require a complex hydraulic system.

A control system for extending and retracting a spreader having a base section and a pair of extensible sections includes a hydraulic circuit for supplying pressurized fluid to fluid rams to extend and retract the sections with an electric control circuit for actuating a control valve. The electric control circuit includes a manual switch having extend and retract positions energizing extend and retract solenoids on the valve. The electric circuit also includes holding means for maintaining either solenoid energized and position control means for automatically deenergizing either solenoid when the sections reach a predetermined position with respect to each other. A single two-position switch is utilized as the position control means cooperates with the hydraulic circuit which locks the spreader sections in predetermined position with respect to each other. These predetermined positions are defined by an elongated rod having detents spaced thereon and secured to one extensible section with an electrical cable surrounding the rod and extending to the outer end of the extensible section to define the electrical connections between the switches on the extensible sections and the remainder of the electrical circuit and the hydraulic circuit on the base section.
