3,596,157 Jul. 27, 1971 Oscillator Energized Motor Control Richard Zechlin Beloit, Rock County, WI Abstract:
An electronic circuit is disclosed for controlling the starting and stopping of a motor. A polyphase source of alternating current is coupled to a plurality of transformers to provide a rectified DC input to an astable oscillator circuit. The output from the oscillator is coupled to a pulse transformer to control the operation of a plurality of pilot SCR's which function to energize a polyphase motor in accordance with the continuous output from the oscillator. The motor may be controlled in an AUTO mode such that a control signal (which may be generated by a suitable photosensor) provides a sufficient emitter bias on the unijunction transistor of the oscillator circuit to selectively terminate the output to the pulse transformer thereby removing the bias on the SCR's and shutting down the motor.

3,990,032 Nov. 02, 1976 Vehicle Weighing System David H. Fish Fairmont, Martin County, MN In 1964 Fairbanks, Morse Inc. changed its name to Colt Industries.

Abstract:

The vehicle weighing system for a towed vehicle includes removable stub axles and a hitch rigidly connected to a load support. The hitch and one or more of the stub axles are gauged in an identical manner. Two active electrical strain gauges are placed in a hole formed in the supporting member to be gauged, such hole extending normal to the direction of the load. The hole is placed adjacent the end of the supporting member which is remote from the load support and the two gauges are oriented to reduce the moment sensitivity of the system to a minimum. The hitch is provided with additional compensating gauges which are not responsive to strain, and the axle and hitch gauges are connected to form a measuring bridge circuit. The gauging holes are sealed by end plugs, a printed circuit board, potting compound and a boot, all of which are flexible so as not to interfere with the weight measurement.

4,081,801 Mar. 28, 1978 Electronic Measuring System with Pulsed Transducer Haydon C. Thomas Lyndonville, Caledonia County, VT In 1964 Fairbanks, Morse Inc. changed its name to Colt Industries.

Abstract:

The electronic measuring system includes a novel power supply which may receive power from a D.C. or A.C. source but which is particularly adapted to convert D.C. battery power to higher voltage pulses to drive a transducer. During intervals between transducer power pulses, an automatic drift compensation system stores an indication of system drift for use during a subsequent power pulse period. The system includes stability sensing means which render the system inoperative for measurement purposes when the signal from the measuring transducer is unstable. To compensate for a loss of time, the system automatically operates for a short period at a rapid rate subsequent to a period of input signal unstability. A novel indicator system and indicator control unit is employed wherein up-down counters are controlled in the indicator for rounding purposes. This system is adaptd to round an output indication by ones, twos, or fives, and where fives rounding is accomplished, the system automatically senses whether the rounding is to be up or down to the nearest five indication. Additionally, measurement indication pulses are fed through a divider counter network prior to the indicator to increase the resolution of the measurement displayed by the indicator.

The system includes stability sensing means which render the system inoperative for measurement purposes when the signal from the measuring transducer is unstable. A plurality of sample measurement signals are taken and stored, and then passed through a programmable low pulse filter to accomplish a measurement. Thus each measurement is the result of a plurality of measurement cycles.

Abstract:

A weighing scale of the type utilizing a lever assembly to transfer a load from a weighing platform to a weight indicator by way of a suspension assembly interconnecting a platform load-transmitting beam to a lever of the lever assembly, with a suspension system having a pair of parallel rocker pins extending between the platform and a bearing member resting on a lever load pivot. The rocker pins have top ends which pivotally connect with the platform, and the pins extend downwardly to pivotally contact a pivot bearing member at their lower ends, so that the rocker pins move to accommodate any horizontal movement of the platform and isolate platform movement from the supporting bearing member. The rocker pins move, with respect to the bearing member, when the platform moves horizontally and the suspension assembly is designed so that those pins will abut the bearing member to control platform horizontal motion.

Abstract:

This invention is a computer-based engine-diagnostic method wherein there are provided lists of observable engine faults and causes for each observable engine fault. A user inputs one or more observed engine faults, and the software responds by displaying, in decreasing order by number of occurrences, causes which are common to two or more of the observed engine faults. Thus, the most probable causes for the observed engine faults appear at the head of the display. Additionally, once a probable cause is determined, the software is enabled to display other engine faults which should be observable, given the selected cause.
