652,643 Jun. 26, 1900 Thread-cutting attachment for lathes Edward Rivett Boston, MA The inventor assigned the patent to "the Rivett-Dock Company, of Camden, New Jersey, and Faneuil, Massachusetts." The patent provides improvements to patent 632,678, granted to Herman Dock.
This lathe attachment works by engaging a series of cutters that progress from rough heavy cuts to a fine finishing cut, which was claimed to produce the same quality results as a single-point finishing tool in less than a third the time. This attachment is shown in an advertisement in the June 30, 1910 issue of American Machinist; the ad was from the Rivett Lathe Mfg Co., and the tool was called the Rivett-Dock Threading Tool.
