The Taylor & Fenn Co. was formed by the 1907 merger of textile machinery maker Fenn Machine Co. and metalworking machinery maker Phoenix Iron Works. Taylor & Fenn remains in business today, making castings, the machinery business having been given up for a few decades since.

  • 1907-06-13 The Iron Age.
    The Phoenix Iron Works Corporation and the Fenn Machine Company, Hartford. Conn., have been consolidated. The details have not been fully settled, but the combined business will be conducted at the present plant of the Phoenix Company on Arch street, where there will be room for the expansion of all departments, comprising the Fenn drill presses and special metal working machinery. the spring foot presses. disk grinders and textile machinery of the Phoenix Iron Works, and general iron foundry work and pattern making. The arrangement will be such that manufacturing will be conducted under most economical conditions. Both of the merged companies are widely and favorably known. The Phoenix Iron Works has been operated under its present ownership for five years, and dates its beginning from 1834. The business of the Fenn Machine Company was established in 1900, first as the Fenn-Sadler Company, and for the past two years and more under the present name, with W. L. Fenn as general manager.
  • July 1907 Textile World Record.
    Following out a plan for greater facilities with which to take care of their increasing business the Phoenix Iron Works Corporation and the Fenn Machine Co. of Hartford announce their consolidation on July 1 to form The Taylor and Fenn Company. Textile and special machinery will be manufactured as heretofore, and with the enlarged plant, improved equipment, and constant aim to increase the high standard of their products, the new company will be in a position to give the highest service to its customers.
