This maker of handheld power tools and bench grinders was founded by 1946 according to one source, and was in business until being acquired by Bison Gear & Engineering Corp. in 1987. Brands or product lines included Power-Guide, Fury and Medallion. We have seen "Ram Power Tool Line" products from Thor Power Tool Co., but we do not know if there is any connection to Ram Tool Corp.

  • A new 6.5" circular saw is mentioned in a 1953 issue of American Lumberman & Building Products Merchandiser.
  • A 1954 National Hardwood magazine mentions Ram Tool Corp., 411 N. Claremont Ave., Chicago".
  • Small ads in a few issues of Life magazine between 1957 and 1959.
  • The February 1959 Popular Mechanics had a comparison of 1/4" and 3/8" electric drills, including the Ram Tool Corp.'s R250 drill.
  • A Securities and Exchange Commission News Digest dated 1961-06-12 carried the following notice:

    RAM TOOL FILES FOR STOCK OFFERING. Ram Tool Corporation, 411 North Clarement Avenue, Chicago, Illinois, filed a registration statement (File 2-18279) with the SEC on June 9th seeking registration of 100,000 shares of common stock, to be offered for public sale through underwriters headed by Aetna Securities Corporation. The public offering price and underwriting terms are to be supplied by amendment. The registration statement also includes 20,000 outstanding common shares sold to the principal underwriter by the holders thereof at 25¢ per share.

    The comany is engaged in the design, manufacture and sale of electrically powered tool. The net proceeds from the stock sale will be added to general funds and used as working capital. The company has outstanding 150,000 shareds of common stock, of which John Cutrone, president (and Christine Cutrone), Theodore A. D'Lugosz, vice president (and Anne D'Lugosz), Siegfried Weiss, secretary (and Resi Weiss), John Schaeffer, treasurer (and Ella Schaeffer), Francois Schneider, a director (and Cecil Schneider), and Minnie Handelman own 14.5% each.

  • The April 1963 issue of Popular Science had a full-page ad from Ram Tool Corp.
  • In 1968 Ram was sued by Globe Tool & Engineering Co. for infringing on a pair of motor-winding patents, 2,627,379 and 3,013,737, both granted to Harry W. Moore (president of Globe). Ram was using motor winders supplied by Possis Machine Corp. The decision invalidated the Moore patents because of prior art dating as far back as 1902 (patents 709,179; 1,048,205; 1,375,745; 2,326,184; 2,348,948; and 2,670,145). The decision was upheld on appeal.
  • The October and December 1968 Popular Mechanics issues had brief writeups of Ram Tool Corp.'s new portable automatic pipe threader.

  • Listed in 1980 Consumer Sourcebook at 2032 North Clybourn Avenue, Chicago.
  • From an article at Automation.com, Bison Gear & Engineering Corp., of St. Charles, IL, purchased Ram Tool Corp shortly after Bison was acquired by Ron Bullock in 1987. Bison had been founded in 1960 to make fractional horsepower electric motors, primarily for OEM applications.
