In 1901 this firm made machinery for manufacturing "D handles". Later on they developed a specialty in precision grinders for cylindrical parts. In 1916 the business incorporated as Ott Grinder Co., with A. J. Ott and C. L. Ott as co-directors along with Samuel Dowden. By 1923 the business was gone; in that year, A. J. Ott established American Gear Grinder Co. with himself as president and treasurer and C. L. Ott as secretary.

    The Ott Grinder Company, Indianapolis, Indiana, has been incorporated with a capital stock of $50,000 to manufacture grinding machines. The directors are A. J. Ott, C. L. Ott and Samuel Dowden.
  • A 1923 issue of Automotive Industries had this item:
    American Gear Grinder Co. has been organized In Detroit, by A. J. Ott, formerly head of the Ott Grinder Co. of Indianapolis, to manufacture gear grinding machines. A. J. Ott Is president and treasurer of the company and C. L. Ott, secretary.
