This firm made the Cummins Portable Tools line of power tools, plus a small combination machine based on one of their handheld electric drills. In 1950 the assets of Fred W. Wappat, Inc. were acquired by Cummins Business Machines Corp., which initially operated it as the Fred W. Wappat Division of Cummins. A review of newspaper classified ads found that around April 1951 Cummins Business Machines Corp. changed its name to Cummins-Chicago Corp.

In 1954 Cummins-Chicago Corp. sold their Cummins Portable Tools division to John Oster Manufacturing Co.
