In 1937, German immigrant Carl Pistorius established Pistorius Machine Co. to make cut-off machines for glass and ceramics. Carl's son Albert took over the operations in the mid-1940s and started a gradual re-focusing of the company on manufacturing machinery for making door and windows—at first aluminum, then vinyl. The name was registered with the State of New York on 11 August 1958, which is likely when they incorporated as Pistorius Machine Co., Inc. They branched into wood cut-off machines in the 1960s. In 1977 the company relocated from Hicksville to Hauppage. In 1986, Albert's son Robert took over control of the business. In 1995 they expanded their plant. The business survived into the 2000s but by 2012 seems to have been in trouble, and disappeared completely by 2020.

Parts Availability

The wear parts for Pistorius machines are available from John G. Weber Co.

Information Sources

  • The company website, http://www.pistorius.com/, is now extinct. It seems to have completely disappeared in about 2015. An archive of the site from 2012-10-23 is the first time the site redirected to a generic page. Subsequently, it redirected to http://www.UltraMitre.com/, which seems to be a site related to Pistorius.com but focused on sawblades. Sometime during 2019 or early 2020, the UltraMitre site disappeared as well.
